Hello, I am still here! Everything seems to have gone hectic over the Christmas period and I’ve barely had time to breathe let alone write on the blog. I’ve also had a very lethargic attitude to baking or cooking in general owing to the size of our kitchen, but all that is about to change…
We’re finally moving to a beautiful house at the end of the week – an unfurnished one as it happens and despite the fact we now have literally ten pounds to rub between us for the rest of the month, we’re really happy and excited because we have a massive new kitchen! And the reason that we are so skint is because we’ve decided that we’re going to have decent crockery and matching items. We’ve figured that in the long run, good quality products will last us much longer. I’m just going to give you a run through of a few things we’ve got to go in our new kitchen space
As the kitchen is cream, and I already had a kMix hand mixer, we decided to go with….cream. I’ve always wanted a retro style kitchen so this fitted in perfectly with my plans. First off we got ourselves some crockery from the Denby Linen range. With the sales on, we got most of the stuff at half price! Chris wanted a white set – I didn’t. I think this is a happy medium. My mum’s had her Denby set for over twelve years, so I know it’ll last, even in my clumsy hands. Fine china has no place in my home on a daily basis!
I bought my Denby Linen range from Bakers & Larners of Holt and Aldiss, both in Norfolk, but you can purchase the Denby Linen range from Amazon
Next we needed some new cutlery. To be fair to Argos, my bamboo style set lasted seven years and about 8 house moves (and some even survived being rammed in the blender to clear it whilst on!) but the time has come to chuck them out. When I was in John Lewis before Christmas, they had a beautiful hammered metal cocktail set which I failed to buy and regretted. But when I was in Jarrold’s, Norwich, I managed to pick up this gorgeous hammered metal Viner’s set for half price. It’s a 16 piece set, so I got two packs for £50 – before the sale they’d have set me back £100 (which I’d never have paid!). Chris wasn’t so sure at first, but I think he likes them now.
The name of the set is “Glamour” from Viner’s. You can pick up a set here.
When we were milling around in TK Maxx I also picked up these super cute egg cups and holder for £7.99. I thought they would add a nice retro vibe to the kitchen.
I also HAD to get this kettle from Breville – I did buy the matching four slice toaster as well. As much as I wanted the Dualit items, we just couldn’t even entertain the idea of spending that much, but I think these are a good substitute!
For Christmas, I bought Chris a lovely Nespresso CitiZ and Milk in cream, plus my parents bought him the kMix blender in cream too! What a lucky boy! (Of course, I don’t benefit from these AT ALL!)
Finally, a couple of months back I had some vouchers from Peter Maturi to use up. I wandered about the store not sure what buy and then I spotted the new Orla Kiely homeware range! I got myself the sugar bowl and a storage jar I’ve used as a tea cannister. They’re beautifully retro and add a touch of colour to our cream range of gadgets!
You can get these from Orla Kiely or from Peter Maturi in Leeds.
