It’s Been “A Hard Day’s Night” Black and White Macarons

It’s Been “A Hard Day’s Night” Black and White Macarons, Lay The Table

The theme this month for the Mac Attack Challenge is “A Summer Flick.”

Included in Deeba’s introduction to the theme she mentioned:  “Or remember the good old days of school holidays when all the kids would pile into the station wagon and dad would drive the gang to a drive-in movie? A classic! Ah, movies are so much a part of summer holidays!”

After reading those words,  the image of my dad with the four of us(I’m the baby:)) piled into our Comet station wagon, headed to see “A Hard Day’s Night” at the Drive-In flashed into my mind! It’s such a fun memory!   The movie actually made its debut on August 11,  1964 (YIKES!).  I was so excited to see it!  My sisters and brother and I talked about it for weeks afterward, along with speaking our favorite lines from the movie in our best British accents:)  One line that we particularly liked had to do with Paul’s grandfather…that’s why I made sure his image(though blurry) was visible in the photo above, near the bottom.  The movie was in black and white,  so of course I had to make my macarons black and white.

These macs actually look more like whoopie pies or homemade “oreos,” because although there is some tiny “feet,” once again they are flat! Sigh…I used a different recipe this time which I found in the L.A. Times.  It’s based on a recipe from “Macaron” by Pierre Herme.  I tried to follow it meticulously, but somehow skipped letting the meringue rest 5 minutes at one point…arrrgggh! I had made another (supposedly foolproof) recipe last night, but it ended up terribly. This batch looked more presentable than last night’s, thankfully.

I added black food coloring and used a cream cheese frosting for the filling in keeping with the black and white theme in line with the movie.
I did have “A Hard Day’s Night” getting these  done, but hopefully next month(third time’s a charm!) my macarons will be more rounded and puffed up, and still have feet too.  I’ve already thought of improvements to be made.  I will  be reading all I can find on achieving success with these temperamental little edible art pieces!  I will be so happy when that day comes! Someday…
