I’m having to work out a bit more recently. The reason is icecream. More specifically Haagen-Dazs icecream. Even more specifically Häagen-Dazs meringue and raspberry fondant icecream. Earlier in the year I reviewed their creme brulee and chocolate fondant flavours but I think this new flavour may win over them, and they tasted pretty good!
To start off with, the vanilla icecream has much more of a vanilla punch than any of the other icecreams of theirs I’ve tried (and trust me, that’s quite a lot, strawberry cheesecake flavour anyone?) and as with all the secret sensations range, there’s a saucy centre in the middle. The raspberry sauce instantly took me back to childhood when 99 icecreams were actually 99p, a curiously unnatural blue raspberry sauce dribbling down the sides. Who decided raspberry flavour should be blue? But there’s nothing unnatural about this sauce though – it is genuinely made from raspberries, and it’s not too sweet or sickly – a good balance and of course, raspberry sauce goes perfectly with vanilla!
In the icecream there are some little nibbly chewy bits of meringue although to be honest I thought there was a combination of white chocolate and meringue but it is just meringue – I don’t think it keeps too well in frozen liquid, but it still gives a good mix of textures in the tub.
Häagen-Dazs Secret Sensations meringue and raspberry fondant comes in a 2 mini pot pack and is available now in supermarkets. You could share the pack but I’m not sure you’ll want to share! We got sent quite a few for the review and I actually had to put my food down and put a ban on eating them until I’d photographed them!
