I’m sure by now you know how much of a Betty’s fan I am and just before Christmas I got to review their delicious gugelhupf and I go there quite a lot, usually when my mum comes to visit as she is a huge Betty’s fan (to her, no-one else makes cinnamon toast quite as well).
Last week they sent me a couple of their lovely spring products – marzipan sponge pigs and Spring flowers fondant fancies. They’re both part of their fabulous Easter range, which, I’ve noticed also has some gorgeous chocolate eggs in it!
The goodies arrived in gorgeous packaging – the outer box actually said “Contains delicious baked product – please open upon receipt”! Once inside, I couldn’t resist trying the beautifully decorated fondant fancies. They are iced with buttermilk and pearly sheen white coloured fondant, decorated with iced flowers and leaves. The icing is nice and thick and of course expertly finished. Inside the sponge is soft and moist, not too dense, not too fluffy. There’s a good layer of jam and buttercream inside too. The jam tastes really good but doesn’t overpower the taste of the cake itself. They are a perfect portion, but I was good and shared mine with Mr LTT – because sharing is caring! Mr LTT also said they were better than my cakes…I haven’t made fondant fancies before but I know they’ll never be as good as these!
The marzipan sponge pigs are such fun to look at. A delight for any kid, or a big kid trapped inside an adult’s body! The pig is very similar to the cabbage cake I tried before. It’s made of genoise sponge which is incredibly light, again sandwiched with jam and vanilla buttercream. This time, it’s wrapped in a rich pink almond marzipan. I think the sponge might also have almond flavour too. Either way, it’s delicious. I just finished the last half a pig today – it seemed a shame to cut them open but I was being good and savouring every last bite.
If you’re not fortunate enough to live near a Betty’s (it swayed me to living up North, I’ll be honest), you can order their goodies on the Betty’s website. The marzipan sponge pigs are £11.80 for a box of 4, the Spring fondant fancies are £6 for a box of 4.
Disclaimer: I was sent the items for review for free, but I was not required to write a positive review – I genuinely love Betty’s!
